The Dartboard

SCENE: THE ANTONIAN

DAY  :  WEDNESDAY, FEB 3

SUBJECT: CHATTER OVER DARTS

The day was about darts; literally and figuratively.  The day had an air of gamesmanship that came replete with sport and the obligatory biscotti and anisette spread; and amongst the interesting chatter the following was overheard.

John Carney has dodged a primary with Chris Coons.  Coons hates being county exec because no county exec has ever climbed to a higher office. Some CE’s have ended up in rehab; others in jail.

Former CE Dennis Greenhouse made the best transition of all when VP Joe secured him a cushy federal job – something to do with drugs.  Not using them per se, of course, but helping to prevent their spread or something like that.

The decision to primary against Beau was iffy, but when Baby Biden decided to appear interested in his own job rather then be drubbed by King Mike, a decision was made.  Coons has decided now to take the drubbing so he gets the “you owe me factor” from the D’s for future considerations, which is the concept of Dem, chairman John Daniello, who makes such decisions while holding court daily from his own seat at Harry’s Savoy.  The problem with the plan – and for Coons – is that should  he (Coons) lose badly; he’d be  viewed as radioactive.  GOP chairman Tom Ross has the same problem with one of his guys. Ross likes beer. Does anyone know what John D drinks?… We need to send them each a case of whatever it is.

This is turn means the national D money will go elsewhere leaving John Carney to ask his large family to pony up checks… Lots of checks.

This is also in turn means the GOP can get Tony Wedo to run.  Tony will use his own money – Charlie Copleland won’t –  and it will then be up to Wedo to beat Carney.

And in addition it means Colin Bonini will win big as the dems primary will leave the shelves empty for the winner come September.

This finally means that Tom Wagner will win because Richard Korn will raise a maximum of $40,000.  Tom will also investigate 5 more school districts for spending patterns that will earn him 10 more weeks of winter… er, I mean front page press coverage.

Mike Fleming announces soon to run against Mike Protack for County Council 3 and everyone will forget the ugly primary between Rich Abbott, John Clatworthy and Fleming to finally exorcise Protack from the party.

Finally, the GOP in Sussex has slated a 68 year old local boy to run for George Carey’s seat.  The D’s are running retired state archivist Russ McCabe. Flip a coin as to who wins.

Those are the darts and this is the Birdie’s Dartboard.  He/she will return next week as we like having our feathered friend getting’ us the skinny.

  1. Polemical Says:

The ‘real’ reason B. Biden did not run will come out in about a years’ time. Btw, my backyard neighbor went to jail (ex CE); the federal pen must’ve not been too harsh (picture Pauly and Goodfellas) because he almost landed back in jail more than a decade later.

  2. HokeBloke Says:

You didn’t give Charlie a chance to throw! If he wants to play, this Wedo guy will have to sit down and have another beer. Wedo has no political experience what so ever. Charlie knows how it works in Washington and will work with the insiders. In politics it is all about who you know. Charlie is a lifetime Delawarean who has spent his life hanging with the right people. If some upstart who hasn’t even lived here for three years thinks he can just take over our party he is a delusional. When Charlie is ready, he will tell everyone that he is the Republican candidate and we should all fall in line! We don’t need some private sector businessman splitting our party. Republicans do you WANT Carney to win?!

  3. roulett Says:

Sometimes it’s really that simple, isn’t it? I feel a little stupid for not thinking of this myself/earlier, though.

  4. system roulette Says:

Great idea, thanks for this tip!

  5. Downtown Lawyer Says:

Then Charlie needs to say he’s in.

  6. admin Says:

Hey, counselor, isn’t this exactly what you’ve bee talking about?…the old guard sheep that WILL name the candidate for you? This is precisely the gang mentality that has prevailed in Delaware for years…

You will take who we tell you to take…and like it.

That’s a hell of a way to pick our leaders…is it not?

We Delawareans can decide on our own who, and who we will not support.

Well, the old guard doesn’t seem to think so

And as far as Chucky Cheese?… Man up and hop in.

  7. admin Says:

God forbid we have the temerity to call for new blood. Scares the hell out of the status quo…don’t it.

Seems like they’s a lil fraid of Tony. Bash and run. The old guard of our respective parties finest tactic.

Boy, is this gonna really come to light.

  8. tmeyer77 Says:

Some good insider action, very nice

  9. queensvillage Says:

Daniello drinks whatever Biden tells him to drink

  10. admin Says:

“He will tell everyone HE is the republican candidate and we should ALL fall in line”.

CHILLING…JUST CHILLING. Really validates our piece “Gangs of Delaware”.

Kinda like arranged marriages ain’t it. Wouldn’t you prefer to choose your own bride/groom?…or have them chosen for you?

  11. queensvillage Says:

Polemical, do you know the real reason?

  12. ReBear Says:

HokeBloke with all due respect, do you know what your argument boils down to? First off we don’t need a “politician” we need a leader. Your second point plays to your first, Charlie is no leader or he wouldn’t need to “work with the insiders”. It is not the Party I want I want in charge of OUR seat, it is the people! If we start discounting every candidate that hasn’t lived here their whole life we end up with a direct relative of Castles or Biden. How about a little credit for the guy who CHOSE to move here? Someone who is running for the well being of his family and neighbors not just because they owe or are owed a favor by Joe or Mike! What is the definition of insanity?; keeping doing the same thing again and again expecting a different result. Delaware, we are nuts!

  13. admin Says:

    Amen, brother.

  14. Downtown Lawyer Says:

This is the era of new. Barack, Brown, etc.

The voters are scared, worried, poor and tired of the same old song and dance.

The GOP can be bold or not.

You will see after Coons loses that he’ll be done.

  15. admin Says:

I’m not entirely certain the general population realizes just how profound the Brown win was. It has the DNC and bubble candidates nationwide calling for therapy appointments. The GOP has taken notice as well. Prozac on the streets in DC has tripled in price, yo.

May be why the GOP and dems are trotting out these arranged marriages as company policy…and having a number of their faithful lining up to get hitched.

Here come the brides – or if they are not careful…the bridesmaids.

  16. ubuntu Says:

I would love to throw some darts at some of the politicians in Delaware, especially those lifetime politicians in the good ‘ole boy network.

  19. Samual Zona Libre Says:
