…”take a message.”
Well lookie here. How times have changed. Seems the incumbent coattails just ain’t what they used to be, folks – and in more ways than one. T’was a time when a newly minted prez could strap his entire flock on his back and carry them over the finish line. And now?… well, let’s just say that not only are certain partisan candidates not securing the straps… they are actually looking to cut them. You heard right, jettison one from one’s own party in an act of independence that would in the past read like an act of mutiny – only now such an act of treason is no longer forbidden… it’s now being encouraged.
Scott Brown’s dramatic upset in Massachusetts – which has had a tsunami affect on both parties – was set up largely by two factors: Martha Coakley’s stupidity and Brown’s perceived independence. He ran as an outsider; a quasi maverick who could, and would, buck the system. He resonated with Bay State voters tired of “status Quo” as they saw him as fresh, unstained, not beholding to party only memberships.
No doubt the lessons have been learned. Candidates such as Delaware’s own Chris Coons have decided that standing outside ain’t so bad. That a lil distance from the White House laundry room could give a candidate – especially one who even Vegas wont put a line on – some latitude to work on his own and not with Geppetto. For those clamoring for a third party they just may get their wish. Only it will closely resemble the original two… lol. Call them Autarchical Republicans (Castle’s current group) and The Sovereign Democrats (Coons’ new party). It is inching toward its tipping point and could threaten to be the rage. The powers that be may have stumbled on their own re-creation.
Even the Dems party formation have made overtures in that direction. To wit: Sen. Robert Menendez (NJ), Chairman of the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee – “If he can do it (referring to Brown), why can’t our Democrats?” So there you have it; a blessing and the architecture of a political hybrid. This can’t be good news for Obama, as he was hoping his coattails would hold their starch a lil while. But the game has changed and the voter dynamic is getting really leery of the usual partisan gridlock that has been the Gold Standard and has only gotten worse.
So Chris Coons the maverick, the outsider, the hybrid Democrat… Will this gunslingin’ CE stand a chance in Sussex? Will this wild persona carry him past Castle and into the Senate? Can he be the next Scott Brown? Well??
The Dems would love to keep the seat, but if they wanted it that bad would it really be Coons?
Stay tuned.

MAVERICK! LOL

When Castle is done reminding every voter 9 times that Chris raised property taxes 35% in 2 years he’ll be done forever. King Mike will even win western Sussex. Coons thinks this is a stepping stone. Wrong. I wonder what law firm will pick him up in 2 years?

UMM doesn’t the 35% equal about $120 bucks for the average homeowner in NCCo to support cops, paramedics and libraries–things people like? I don’t think it is that big of a deal. People would have been more upset if cops were laid off and libraries closed. Just because he raised taxes doesn’t mean he can’t win. Mike should be more concerned about defending his record of voting the party line to the detriment of Delawareans.
